Newcastle United have agreed an extension for ex-Norwich City and Everton goalkeeper John Ruddy.
It is expected the 38-year-old will remain on Tyneside as a back-up player and will continue a mentor role working behind the scenes.
Ruddy did not agree terms with Newcastle at the end of last season with the club then explaining they were in talks to retain his services.
The one-time England international had offers to play in the EFL but Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe was eager to retain the veteran stopper. Howe said of Ruddy last season: "John has been brilliant behind the scenes, I have to say.
"I can't praise people like John enough. John has come into the football club and he has fully embraced everything we do.
"He is here for youth games and reserve games. He has really invested in trying to help people. Every player I am sure he has touched in some way. John has been a vital part of what we have done this year."
Ruddy appeared in the squad for competitive action 11 times but has not made a single appearance for the club yet at senior level.
However, Newcastle have not managed to agree on an extension for Callum Wilson yet. Howe was keen to keep the no.9 with an incentivised deal on the table for the ex-AFC Bournemouth star, one offer was turned down last week but that could still change.
Talks have remained in place with the England international currently on pundit duty at the FIFA World Club Cup. Wilson is believed to have other options on the table and appeared to say goodbye to supporters at the end of last term.
Wilson has not commented publicly on his situation at Newcastle and it remains to be seen if he appears back at Benton for pre-season. Howe said after the Everton game he wanted an agreement reached.
He said then: “Well, let's wait and see. We're going to sit down and talk with his representatives.
"What I can say is Callum Wilson is and has been just an incredible footballer for Newcastle, someone who epitomises the spirit that's got us to where we are.
“Really professional, brave. I mean, to come here and be the number nine in the manner and the moment that he did in the club's history, it was a difficult moment."
Newcastle announced on June 6 that they were talking to both experienced players about new deals. A statement read: "Callum Wilson and John Ruddy are set to be out of contract at the end of June, however the club has opened discussions with both players about their futures and new contracts could still be agreed."
