Paul Pierce is a 2008 NBA champion, a 10-time All-Star, is an NBA Finals MVP and is in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
But if you ask the Boston Celtics legend, he thinks there’s another conversation his name belongs in.
“I was probably the best pure scorer ever in the history of the game,” Pierce said on FS1’s “Speak.”
Pierce averaged 19.7 points and shot 44.5% from the field over the course of his 19-year career.
“I was pretty equipped, when I think about it,” he said. “I’m just saying, like, I need to be in this conversation.”
There was no doubt about Pierce’s offensive ability. But names like LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Kareem Abdul-Jabaar, Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson are probably names among scorers that fans would name before Pierce.
While Pierce’s game didn’t feature too many holes in it, he never won the NBA scoring title and never shot more than 50% from the field at any point in his career. He was a prolific scorer, but Jordan won 10 scoring titles and Durant has won four.
