Óscar Mingueza has been linked with a move to Aston Villa repeatedly in recent months, and it would appear Barcelona had been counting on the transfer to the Premier League club happening.
The 26-year-old moved from the Catalan side to Celta Vigo in 2022 and Barcelona secured an option for a percentage of a future sale. They’ve got these options on many outgoing deals completed in recent years and it’s become a firm source of income which can help during their difficult financial times.
On this particular player, Barca are due 50% after they let him join Celta Vigo for a reduced fee of around €3m. Therefore, a transfer to Aston Villa would have been hugely welcomed at the Camp Nou.
Monday’s edition of [Mundo Deportivo](http://mundodeportivo.com) covers the disappointment and claims at one point some even thought Mingueza to Aston Villa was close to being an agreed deal, and the percentage would therefore be on the way.
That hasn’t turned out to be the case and it’s now a waiting game. The flexible defender has a contract which expires a year from now, and the big fear for Barcelona and Celta Vigo is that he refuses to renew and leaves for nothing.
Maybe Aston Villa could take another look then.
