Manchester United’s hunt for a striker is really not going well, having missed out on two key targets, with Victor Osimhen looking set to become the third.
The Red Devils have been desperate to get a new striker in after Rasmus Hojlund has struggled for the second year running as the club’s first-choice striker.
Since joining United in 2023 under Erik ten Hag, the former Atalanta striker has struggled to provide consistency in front of goal, with only 26 goals and 6 assists in 95 games.
Unfortunately Hojlund’s lack of goals became even more apparent last season, with the Denmark international ranking last in both goals and assists per 90 minutes and expected goals and assists in 90 minutes after a 21 game goal drought.
As such, The Red Devils are looking to several top tier strikers from around Europe, including Viktor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike.
However, Ruben Amorim seems to be set to miss out on a reunion with his former striker Gyokeres as Arsenal have agreed personal terms to sign the talented striker.
This blow comes after United have already missed out on Liam Delap who moved to Chelsea when the summer transfer window opened.
Now, Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu has reported that Victor Osimhen has also rejected a move to Old Trafford this sumer.
The Red Devils reportedly asked for Osimhen to take a wage cut, which the Nigerian international refused.
Osimhen has spent the last season on loan with Galatasaray, helping them lift the Super Lig title and the Turkiye Kupasi with 37 goals and eight assists in 41 games.
As such, the Turkish side are keen to retain their star striker with Sabuncuoglu claiming they are front-runners to seal his permanent move.
Now with Gyokeres and Osimhen seemingly a no-go, United are turning their attention closer to home, focusing on Premier League stars such as Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and recent Everton departure Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
