Over the last week, the football world has been in morning over the tragic loss of Liverpool and Portugal attacker Diogo Jota, and his brother Andre Silva.

On Thursday 3rd July, Jota was driving back to Liverpool with his younger brother ahead of the pre-season when their lives were unfortunately taken, with a tyre bursting, sending the car off the road.

Two days later, Jota’s loved ones, including his Liverpool and Portugal teammates, and his wife of two-weeks, Rute Cardoso, all gathered for the funeral of the two young brothers on Saturday.

Now, the world is still dealing with the tragic loss, as his former and current teammates process the news whilst also preparing for the new season ahead.

Two such players are Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and right-back Diogo Dalot.

The pair played alongside Jota for Portugal, having won the UEFA Nations League with the Liverpool man only a month ago.

Now, The Sun has revealed that, to show support for the pair, United have delayed their return to Carrington, being granted extended leave.

As such, the duo won’t need to return to join Amorim’s squad until a week’s time.

A source close to the pair commented: “Bruno and Diogo are heartbroken and in shock after attending the funeral.

“United’s players have rallied around them. They’ve been offered a week’s extended leave and counselling or support.

“The pair played with Jota for ten years in the national side and won the Nations League together only a few weeks ago.”

Taking to X at the time, Bruno Fernandes commented: “May you and your brother find the peace you need”, showing love for his former teammate.
