The 2025 training camp for the Green Bay Packers is just around the corner, and among the many players on the team fans are eager to observe is none other than rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden.
There is a lot of hype surrounding Golden. For one, he’s the first wide receiver the Packers selected in the first round of an NFL draft after a very long while — since Javon Walker in 2002, to be exact.
With Jordan Love under center and an elite running back in Josh Jacobs, the Packers are looking to see their offense elevate further in 2025, and Golden is projected to be one of the significant contributors to the team’s attack right out of the gate of his pro career.

Wide Receiver Matthew Golden of Texas poses after being selected twenty-third overall pick by the Green Bay Packers during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft at Lambeau Field on April 24, 2025 in Green Bay.
It remains to be seen just how big of an impact Golden can make on the Packers’ offense, which was eighth in the NFL in the 2024 campaign with an average of 26.1 points per game. But he’sgot the right mindsetand approach to his role.
“It’s just being able to contribute to the team, go out there and have fun,” Golden said (h/t Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston). “Just my versatility, what I can do, I can play anywhere on the field. Just doing what the team needs me to do. That’s what I did at Texas and that’s what I’m going to continue to do. Just being in the position to play for the Green Bay Packers man, it means so much to me.”
Alongside the likes of wide receivers Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and tight end Tucker Kraft, Golden can help stretch the field and loosen up opposing defenses with his speed and versatility, which also allowed him to rack up 987 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 58 receptions with the Texas Longhorns in 2024.
