Marcus Rashford is edging closer to a move away from Man United as Barcelona plan to step up their interest, according to their former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the 27-year-old is increasingly likely to move to the Nou Camp on loan.
This comes after Ruben Amorim gave the winger extra time off, until the end of this month, to secure himself a move. He had initially been due to return to Carrington at the start of this week for pre-season.
Football Insider revealed on 6 July that Amorim wants to fast-track Rashford’s exit as he originally planned for the deal to be completed before pre-season.
Sources say Barcelona’s financial situation has made the move difficult, but after missing out on their top target Nico Williams, they will step up their move for the England star.
Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider on 19 May that Rashford is ready for another loan move if a long-term solution cannot be found.

Barcelona to step up case for Man United star Marcus Rashford
Brown told Football Insider on 12 May that Rashford wants to join Barcelona and has changed agents in hope of securing a deal.
The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham, West Ham and Aston Villa, insisted that the deal for the England international will accelerate in the coming weeks.
“Everybody knows Rashford wants to join Barcelona,” he told Football Insider.
“Ultimately, it looks like he’s going to go out on loan again because that’s the type of deal they want to do and United don’t have much choice.
“They need to move him on because it’s clear the manager doesn’t want him to come back.
“But there’s no out-and-out buyer for him because of his wages.
“Barcelona won’t be able to get a deal done at the price United want and the money he wants, so a loan move might be the only way out.
“I think that’s a deal that’s going to get closer in the next couple of weeks.
“United are starting pre-season and will want him gone so that he doesn’t become a distraction.
“Barcelona have missed out on other targets, so Rashford looks like he might be the one.
“They’ll need to work out the terms of it between the clubs, but it’s a deal that’s growing more likely to happen after recent events.”

Ivan Toney update emerges at Old Trafford
While Rashford’s future remains up in the air, Amorim has turned his attention towards strengthening his squad, with former Brentford star Ivan Toney on their list.
Brown told Football insider on 3 July that United are considering a “surprise” move for Toney given his Premier League experience and goalscoring prowess.
The England international scored 30 goals and provided six assists across 44 appearances during the 2024-25 season and remains very highly-rated.
The former Brentford star has been on the radar at Old Trafford for a while, after Football Insider revealed in August 2024 that United plotted a £20million bid for Toney.
