Leeds United 'join race' to sign Serie A star as new Lucas Perri transfer claim made

Leeds United remain focused on strengthening the spine of their team ahead of the 2025/26 season. It is widely expected a new first-choice goalkeeper will come in as they gear up for their Premier League return.

Illan Meslier was dropped at the end of last season after a string of high-profile errors, with Karl Darlow replacing the Frenchman in between the sticks. Darlow's experience proved a big asset in the title run-in but is not Daniel Farke's preferred No 1.

Reports from Italy suggest the Whites have entered the race to sign Vanja Milinkovic-Savic from Torino. Serie A side Napoli are also said to be interested in the Serbian international while Premier League heavyweights Manchester United were also credited with an interest in the player earlier this summer.

It has been claimed Farke's side have enquired over Milinkovic-Savic's availability. The 29-year-old reportedly has a release clause worth €21m for foreign clubs and €19m (£16m/$22m) for Serie A clubs.

Leeds Live understands Lyon star Lucas Perri is on their goalkeeping shortlist. The Brazilian, who is 6ft 5ins tall, conceded 44 goals in 33 appearances last season.

Paulo Fonseca, Lyon head coach, described the 27-year-old as “the best goalkeeper in the world” in March. The former Botafogo star has only had one season in Europe.

Leading French newspaper L’Équipe claim Perri could be sold for a €23m fee in the coming days to ease Lyon's financial problems. The French club have already sold star attacker Rayan Cherki to Manchester City for a reported €42m fee. L’Équipe have reported that Perri looks set to make a move to the Premier League as Lyon look to raise more funds to secure their future. No details are provided on the identity of the club who Perri is allegedly close to joining this summer.
