Arsenal's hopes of completing a deal to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres look set to increase this week. Reports over the weekend claimed that the Gunners had travelled to Lisbon to submit an official proposal.
football.london understands the club are working on a deal to sign Gyokeres after talks with RB Leipzig over a move for Benjamin Sesko stalled. Gyokeres is very keen on a move to north London but the issue has been Sporting's valuation.
It's believed the Portuguese champions want a deal in the region of £61million plus £8.6m in add-ons. CNN Portugal reported on Sunday that Arsenal have offered £56.1m plus £13m in add-ons.
Talks are thought to be continuing between the two teams this week and Gyokeres is reportedly considering delaying his return to pre-season training in Lisbon to force a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Portuguese outlet Record have claimed that the striker is willing to give up €2m (£1.7m) from his salary in order to facilitate the negotiations between the two teams. Now, CNN Portugal have followed up their report of Arsenal's bid with news of Gyokeres' attempts to complete the move.
The report on Monday morning has reported that the 27-year-old has 'everything ready' to move to England and has started checking in the luggage to move to London. It's also noted that Sporting could accept a fee worth £69m, similar to the Gunners' recent bid.
football.london understands that Arsenal remain keen on concluding a deal for the striker before their pre-season tour of Asia. New signings Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga will join their new teammates on the tour and there's hope that Gyokeres will also fly out.
