Ruben Amorim could replace two ex-Man Utd stars with £52m-rated ‘sought-after’ talent, three Premier League clubs linked

Ruben Amorim might have found the perfect replacement for two first-team former Manchester United players who left Old Trafford this summer, according to reports.

The 40-year-old Manchester United manager already saw player exits at the end of the 2024-25 Premier League season, including the departure of Victor Lindelof.

Victor Lindelof’s contract with United expired on 30th June and the 30-year-old Sweden international became a free agent from 1st July.

The former United centre-back was not the only defender to leave Old Trafford, with veteran ex-Red Devils star Jonny Evans also seeing his second spell come to an end.

Jonny Evans’ deal with United expired at the end of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign and the 37-year-old Northern Irishman retired from football in June.

However, the former Northern Ireland international has remained at Old Trafford and was appointed to the role of head of loans and pathways at the Red Devils.

Man Utd have found a perfect transfer replacement for Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof at Old Trafford

Ruben Amorim still boasts a strong number of defensive options at Manchester United, including Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire.

However, the United first team have lost defensive options to rotate between for Amorim’s tactical system for United ahead of the 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils’ main priorities in the transfer market are believed to be a midfielder and a striker after United’s £62.5m acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

However, United might have found a solution to plug the void left behind by the departures of Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof from Old Trafford this summer.

CaughtOffside has now reported that United have rekindled their interest in Giorgio Scalvini from Serie A side Atalanta in the summer transfer window.

According to the publication, the 21-year-old Italian centre-back could be allowed to leave Atalanta for a fee of around £52m (€60m) for emerging talent Giorgio Scalvini.

United have been linked with Giorgio Scalvini in the past and the Atalanta and Italy defender is under contract with the Serie A club until 2028.

According to CaughtOffside, Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea could all rival United in the race to sign Italy international Scalvini this summer.

Scalvini has also attracted transfer interest from Juventus, Napoli and Inter Milan, with reports suggesting that the Serie A trio are ‘pursuing him.’

CaughtOffside claims that the Italian is one of the ‘most sought-after young talents’ in football and he is ‘seen as one of the new stars’ emerging in Italian football.

Scalvini came through the Atalanta youth academy and the United-linked player has made 107 appearances for the Italian club since his emergence in the first team.
