Manchester United have been told that Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi wants to join the Reds.

Recent reports from talkSPORT claim that the Reds are interested in Ndidi. The Nigerian international could be available for a cheap fee this summer following the Foxes' relegation from the Premier League.

The report also suggests that Everton are in the mix, with both clubs having shown interest in him last summer when he was available on a free transfer. However, Ndidi chose to commit his future to Leicester, signing a three-year contract extension after their Championship title triumph.

The agreement included a £9million release clause, which became active after the Foxes' relegation from English football's top flight was confirmed. And a close friend of Ndidi's, former Nigeria international, Julius Aghahowa, claims the player favours a move to United over Everton this summer.

“While Everton and Al-Ahli’s interest is obvious, Ndidi hopes to join Manchester United. He wants to take a step up by signing for a big club like Manchester United,” he said via Africa Foot.

“It would be an excellent move for someone I consider one of the best African central midfielders of recent years. He’s powerful, capable of pressing, winning back balls, and creating space with his long diagonal runs.”

The 43-year-old explains why Ruben Amorim would need a player like Ndidi in his squad.

He added: “Wilfred is the player the Red Devils need in midfield. He’s surprisingly generous and capable of repeating efforts and covering a lot of space. He would be a considerable asset to the Manchester club if the transfer were to go through."

Speaking back in January, then-Leicester head coach and former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy provided an update on Ndidi's future after he was linked with a winter move to Ligue 1 side Monaco.

When asked if he would be willing to let Ndidi go, Van Nistelrooy said: "No, of course not. Wilfred is a key player and person in the squad and in the club and I’m glad he is nearly there to help the team again.

"We know how much we’ve missed him and we know we need him. Wilf is key in the coming months, a key part of this team that can get us out of this situation."
