Boston Celtics fans got what felt like the worst news imaginable when it was revealed that Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles.
This couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Celtics, who still had a chance to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals, but this injury made that next to impossible.
Tatum has been the heart and soul of this team for years, despite some criticism, a player his teammates could rely on every night.
An Achilles injury means that he’ll be out for most, if not all, of the 2025-2026 season, causing the Celtics to make some roster changes and look quite different soon.
Nothing can change that reality, of course, but fans did recently get a positive update on the star, as Daniel Donabedian highlighted on X.
Tatum was seen walking in the water with a team trainer, a notable part of his recovery.

He still has a long way to go before he gets back onto the basketball court, but a step in the right direction cannot hurt.
The Celtics will have to find ways to win without Tatum this year, which could be a good thing for Jaylen Brown, as he can further establish himself as an alpha in this league.
This will also force the Celtics to call other players into action with more minutes than they’re used to, helping the organization figure out what’s next for the foreseeable future.
Losing Tatum will be a big change; only time will tell how big of a change it’ll make for this organization.
