Fabio Capello will take charge of the Roma legends team set to play after the landmark first senior game at Everton’s new stadium.
The former England boss will take to the away dugout of the Hill Dickinson Stadium after the clubs’ current sides meet for the Blues’ final pre-season friendly.
Peter Reid will manage the Everton legends team on the day, one that will be led by Phil Jagielka.
Everton and Roma, both owned by the Friedkin Group, will meet on Saturday, August 9 for what is planned to be the final test event at the Hill Dickinson. The clubs met last year in the last ever pre-season friendly at Goodison Park and will do so again as Everton celebrate the move to the new home.
The occasion will see the first team match start at 3pm and for that game to be followed by the legends contest at 5.15pm.
Capello won the Coppa Italia as a player with Roma before clinching Serie A titles with Juventus and AC Milan. As a manager in the Eternal City he led Roma to the club’s first Serie A success after having already won major silverware with Milan and Real Madrid.
His side on the Liverpool waterfront will include Vincent Candela, who was part of that title-winning Roma team under Capello.
In the opposite dugout, Capello will face Reid, who lifted two league titles, the FA Cup, the European Cup Winners' Cup and three Charity Shields, during his glorious spell at Goodison.
Looking ahead to the spectacle, Reid said: "I'm delighted. The day will be a brilliant curtain-raiser. Listen, the Grand Old Lady has always been our heart but when you go inside and look at Hill Dickinson Stadium, it's just magnificent.
“I can't wait for 50-odd thousand Evertonians to be in there because we know what a unique atmosphere they create. It'll be something to behold.”
