Bayern Munich have set their sights on a deal for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze as they plan to step up their interest in a new attacking midfielder.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Vincent Kompany is a huge admirer of the 27-year-old.

This comes after the “devastating” injury to Jamal Musiala, who suffered a broken leg and dislocated ankle during their Club World Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Brown told Football Insider in May that Bayern are considering a move for Eze after the success of Michael Olise’s move from Selhurst Park to the Allianz Arena.

Following the blow of losing Musiala, the Bundesliga champions are prepared to accelerate their interest in the England international and could beat Arsenal to his signature.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 6 July that Arsenal are weighing up whether to sign Eze and have held internal discussions about triggering his release clause.

Bayern Munich eye swoop for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

Brown told Football Insider on 26 June that Eze won’t leave Palace for less than £68million as Oliver Glasner is keen to keep his best players at the club.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted Bayern are now prepared to step up their efforts to sign an attacking midfielder.

“*Bayern Munich have been looking to sign an attacking midfielder,*” he told Football Insider.

“That situation has now been highlighted, and I’m devastated to hear about Musiala’s injury because he’s a young player I rate very highly.

“Eze is somebody they were looking at even before the injury.

“Vincent Kompany is a big fan of his, and Michael Olise has been a great success there since his move from Palace, so it might make sense for Eze to follow him.

“I think after losing Musiala, they’re going to step up their efforts to sign somebody in that role.

“Eze certainly fits that bill, and if they pay his release clause he will go.

“There’s been interest in him from Arsenal, but I think Bayern would be the preferred destination.

“Personally, I’d like to see him stay at Palace, but I think for players like Eze, a move to the Bundesliga can allow them to express themselves and show what they can do.

“It’s a move that would suit him well and one Bayern are interested in doing.”

Palace respond as Liverpool eye Marc Guehi swap deal

Eze is not the only star player being linked with a move away from Selhurst Park this summer, as Liverpool have retained their strong interest in Marc Guehi.

However, Brown told Football Insider on 7 July that Palace will not accept a swap deal, and will demand straight cash for Guehi despite rumoured interest in Ben Doak.

While the Eagles have a long-held interest in Doak, there is a feeling that any swap deal would also have to include a significant cash sum to make it worth while.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 1 July that Palace would prefer a cash offer for Guehi rather than a swap deal for their captain this summer.
