‘Hopes to join Manchester United’…Ruben Amorim told midfielder has made Red Devils move first choice

Manchester United have already been rejected by two players in this transfer window, so the claims around one transfer target will come as music to their ears.

The loss to Spurs in the Europa League final seems to have set in motion a bad cycle for Man Utd, which started with Liam Delap moving to Chelsea.

Viktor Gyokeres is now moving to Arsenal, and while United’s pull is still strong, as evidenced by Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, Ruben Amorim will be heartened to hear the latest developments around a target.

Ex-international Julius Aghahowa has now claimed that United’s transfer target has made Old Trafford his first-choice destination this summer.

Julius Aghahowa on Wilfred Ndidi’s Man Utd transfer hopes

Wilfred Ndidi became a hot topic in the transfer market this summer after Leicester were relegated from the Premier League under Ruud van Nistelrooy.

As a Nigerian international in the peak years of his career, Ndidi is considering a move away, with a path back to the Premier League provided by Man Utd.

United need an energetic midfielder and their financial situation means they can’t go out and grab a world-class name on a blank cheque.

Ndidi offers Premier League pedigree, much like Cunha and Mbeumo, and could arrive for less than £10m, which means competition for his services.

According to ex-Nigerian international Aghahowa, that won’t be a problem, because Ndidi has made United his dream choice this summer.

Speaking to AfricaFoot, Aghahowa said: “While Everton and Al Ahly are clearly interested, Ndidi hopes to join Manchester United. He wants to take a step up by signing for a big club like Manchester United.

“This would be an excellent move for someone I consider one of the best African midfielders of recent years. He is powerful, capable of pressing, winning back balls, and opening up the game with his long diagonal runs.

“Wilfred is the player the Red Devils need in midfield. He is surprisingly generous and capable of repeating efforts and covering a lot of space. He would be a considerable asset to the Manchester club if the transfer were to go through.”

Ndidi could be an excellent opportunity for Man Utd

Reaffirming the club’s pull aside, Ndidi offers an excellent market opportunity for United from a sporting perspective as well.

The price tag is not even the most attractive thing about the player. His age, he’s 28, makes him perfect to come in and become a plug-and-play option.

It will allow Ruben Amorim to tinker with his options, especially if a world-class striker doesn’t arrive, as is looking likely now.

By signing Ndidi, options for Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes to play higher up will open, leaving space for either Cunha or Mbeumo to have stints as the No. 9.

Even if he doesn’t work out, it won’t take much from United’s POV to turn a profit on him from a PSR perspective, if not pure profit on the transfer fee.

Even though Van Nistelrooy has now left Leicester City, this is a move United should definitely explore. If not now, then later in the window.
