Arsenal’s summer transfer plans are beginning to take shape, with deals for Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi confirmed in recent days.
Further movement is expected in the coming weeks, with widespread reports suggesting both Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke are firmly on the radar. However, Real Madrid’s Rodrygo remains a name that simply won’t disappear this summer.
The winger is currently in the United States with his club for the FIFA Club World Cup, but has yet to feature in the tournament as Madrid prepare for a semi-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain. His exclusion has understandably sparked speculation about his long-term future at the club and how he fits into new head coach Xabi Alonso’s plans.
Gyokeres has emerged as Arsenal’s primary striker target, while links with Chelsea’s Madueke have intensified, with The Athletic reporting that personal terms have already been agreed with the 23-year-old. Whether Arsenal’s interest in Madueke is in addition to, or instead of, a move for Rodrygo remains to be seen.
According to Fabrizio Romano, speaking to GiveMeSport, Arsenal still hold a strong interest in Rodrygo, though no deal is likely until after the Club World Cup. Should Madrid reach the final, they will remain in the US until after Sunday, July 13.
ESPN Brazil have reported in recent days that both PSG and Manchester City have also registered their interest in Rodrygo, meaning Arsenal could face stiff competition for his signature if a move is pursued later in the summer. Reports in Spain suggest Madrid’s asking price for the Brazilian is in the region of £77m.
Madrid boss Alonso has also addressed Rodrygo’s situation following the forward’s omission from the team. Speaking to the media ahead of their quarter-final clash with Borussia Dortmund last week, he said: “I’m sure Rodrygo can return to his best form. I spoke with him. He’s positive, eager and ready when needed.”
