Manchester United have confirmed 15 players reported back to Carrington on Monday morning for the start of their pre-season preparations.

As has been the case in previous years, returns to the club's training complex will be staggered, with those who were on international duty at the end of last season not expected back until Thursday.

Among the arrivals on Monday morning were new signings Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon. The latter finalised his move to Old Trafford last week after arriving from Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno.

Cunha joined United from Premier League counterparts Wolves last month after the Reds triggered his £62.5million release clause. He scored 17 goals across all competitions last season and is a statement addition.

Cunha and Leon were joined in reporting to Carrington by the likes of Andre Onana, Matthijs de Ligt, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Joshua Zirkzee and Amad.

However, a crop of senior figures, such as Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Patrick Dorgu, Manuel Ugarte and Rasmus Hojlund were not present. Portuguese duo Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes were also absent after being granted a period of leave following the tragic death of international teammate Diogo Jota last week.

The United duo attended Jota's funeral in Portugal on Saturday and have been granted the full week off. They were originally expected to return to Carrington on Thursday given they represented Portugal in the Nations League finals last month.

Meanwhile Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Antony were all missing. The quintet informed United last week they all want to leave the club this summer.

They have had their return dates delayed until later this month to explore options away from Old Trafford. United have plans to sell the five.

United players present at Carrington on Monday:

Goalkeepers: Andre Onana & Tom Heaton.

Defenders: Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven, Tyler Fredricson, Luke Shaw, Diego Leon & Harry Amass.

Midfielders: Toby Collyer, Mason Mount & Kobbie Mainoo.

Attackers: Matheus Cunha, Joshua Zirkzee & Amad.
