Barcelona are still planning a “new approach” for Liverpool winger Luis Diaz soon, according to a key update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The 28-year-old’s future has been a main talking point in recent months, with Barca constantly linked with snapping him up in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool have made it clear what their stance is, wanting to keep hold of the Colombia winger, but a move to Spain or Saudi Arabia still doesn’t feel impossible.
Now, Romano has provided an update on X on the Reds attacker’s future, saying Barca are refusing to go away, with the La Liga giants planning a “new approach” to sign him in the coming days:
“Barcelona plans have not changed: the intention is to try make new approach for Luis Diaz soon. Diaz, keen on the move. He’s the main target for Barca as winger, while FCB are aware of difficult negotiations ahead club to club after two approaches already rejected.”
Diaz still has lots to offer at Liverpool
There have been times when Diaz has split opinion among the Liverpool fanbase, with Newcastle United wide man Anthony Gordon even mentioned as a potential replacement for him this time last year.
The Colombian enjoyed one of his best seasons yet at Anfield in 2024/25, however, winning the Premier League title and scoring 17 goals in all competitions, and Jurgen Klopp always admired him during their time together, saying:
“What a boy, what a story, what a player but he should have scored! He agrees probably. The speed he has is insane. He gets our football 100 per cent. We thought we saw that at Porto. He fits like a glove to our football and that’s really really special.”
Admittedly, Diaz isn’t an irreplaceable figure like Mohamed Salah or Virgil van Dijk, so losing him wouldn’t be the end of the world if a huge offer came their way for him this summer, but keeping hold of him is still the best option.
He possesses pace, trickery and improved end product, while his off-the-ball work is relentless, highlighting what an excellent team player he is for Arne Slot at Liverpool.
