Nearly two months have passed since Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum suffered a devastating Achilles rupture during Boston’s postseason clash with the New York Knicks. In the weeks since, Tatum hasn’t shied away from letting the world in on his journey back.
On June 7—25 days after undergoing surgery—Tatum shared an update on X, writing, “Day 25… days are starting to get a little easier,” giving fans a hopeful glimpse into his progress.
But recovery has proven anything but linear.
Twenty days later, he returned to X with a far more raw post: “Day 45… this is some (expletive).”
Most recently, Tatum offered another window into his rehab, posting an Instagram story of himself moving carefully through a pool, lifting his knees high with each slow step—a small but determined sign of progress.
Unfortunately for Celtics fans, Tatum is expected to miss the upcoming season as he continues to heal. It’s a tough blow for Boston after a regular season in which Tatum averaged 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists, earning his sixth consecutive All-Star selection and a place on the All-NBA First Team.
With Tatum sidelined and key pieces like Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Luke Kornet already traded away, the Celtics appear headed for a transitional year as they wait for their superstar’s return.
