Those members of Unai Emery’s squad who were not involved with their national teams at the end of last season were all back at the training ground on Monday.
Tyrone Mings, Jacob Ramsey, Ross Barkley and Boubacar Kamara were among those who underwent conditioning checks ahead of the first training sessions later this week.
Villa play their first pre-season friendly at Walsall a week on Wednesday, July 16.
Those players who were away on international duty, the bulk of Emery’s squad, will return at the beginning of that week.
Goalkeeper Emi Martinez will be among them as speculation continues to swirl around his future.
The Argentina international left the pitch in tears at the end of the final home match of last season and exit during the current transfer window remains a possibility.
But Villa are yet to receive an approach for Martinez and the list of suitors who can provide the kind of challenge the 32-year-old is seeking is relatively small.
Reports have claimed Manchester United are preparing to stick with Andre Onana as their No.1. Atletico Madrid, another club who have been monitoring Martinez’s situation, would need to sell their first-choice shot-stopper Jan Oblak to make any deal a possibility.
Martinez signed a contract through to 2029 at Villa last summer and is valued by the club at around £40million.
