Newcastle United have one again been linked with a move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Alan Pardew has compared Dominic Calvert-Lewin to incoming Arsenal goal machine Viktor Gyokeres.
Newcastle have expressed interest in the former Everton striker - released last month - several times since the Saudi-backed takeover. The Telegraph reported last year that United had a £25million bid rejected - with the Toffees demanding £40million.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin announces exit
A hamstring injury resulted in Calvert-Lewin missing most of Everton’s season from January onwards. He was hardly missed, with David Moyes comfortably steering them towards Premier League survival.
"To Everton Football Club and the Evertonians,” he wrote on social media after his exit. “After nine remarkable years at this club, I've made the incredibly difficult decision - together with my family - to begin a new chapter in my career.
"This isn't something I chose lightly. Everton has been my home since I was 19-years-old. It's the place that saw potential in me, challenged me to grow, and shaped me both as a footballer and as a man.
"I want to express my gratitude to all the managers and coaches I've worked with over the years, and to my teammates who have become lifelong friends. Above all, I want to speak to you, the fans. Your passion is the beating heart of this club.
“Whether times were good or tough, your unwavering support never faltered. Celebrating goals at Goodison Park, feeling that roar, is an experience I'll carry with me forever.”
Viktor Gyokeres comparison
Former Toon boss has bizarrely suggested Calvert-Lewin is as good as Sporting Lisbon sensation Gyokeres on his day. For context, the Swede - understood to be close to joining Arsenal - netted 51 more goals than Calvert-Lewin last season.
"If you were going to do a contract with him, you'd certainly have something in place that he'd have to hit a certain number of appearances for him to reach a certain financial level,” Pardew told talkSPORT. "So if that was in place, I would be quite comfortable with him being in the squad because he's got talent, I think we all know that.
"When he is on his game, he's as good as any striker in the Premier League. If Calvert-Lewin has a day and Gyokeres has a day, they're very similar. But of course, the consistency level of Calvert-Lewin and the fact he's not really on the pitch that often is the big, big problem with him."

Newcastle United striker hunt
Newcastle are keen on signing a striker after Callum Wilson announced his exit earlier today. Joao Pedro, albeit not an out-and-out No.9, was a top target before he joined Chelsea last week.
Fans appear torn on social media about whether Calvert-Lewin would be a good signing. It must be noted that NewcastleWorld have not heard he is considered as a target - the link comes from talkSPORT - but Eddie Howe previously rated the player.
