Callum Wilson strike vs Everton in 2023 was his best-ever Newcastle United goal
During the 2022/23 season, Wilson was simply unstoppable at times. 18 Premier League goals that season saw Newcastle qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
Wilson had an emotional farewell at St James’ Park on the final day of the season, many fans knew then that it was likely over for the England international.
Many fans may not remember that Wilson had to step up that campaign due to an injury Alexander Isak picked up early in the season. Miguel Almiron had hit a good run of form that season, but it quickly dropped off after the winter months.

On April 27, 2023, Newcastle travelled to Merseyside to take on Everton at Goodison Park. Eddie Howe’s side knew that a win would take them closer to Champions League qualification, and they delivered.
Wilson scored twice in that game, but it was his second of the evening which was the most impressive. The 33-year-old received the ball from a Bruno Guimaraes pass, set himself and side-footed it from outside the edge of the box, past Jordan Pickford and into the top corner.
The game will always be remembered for Isak’s brilliant run for the Magpies’ fourth goal, but that strike from Wilson was undoubtedly his best at the club.
Honourable mentions for Callum Wilson’s best Newcastle United goal
Having scored 49 times for the Magpies, there are many to choose from. Wilson had a keen eye for goal and was known for his clinical finishing and ability to pop up and find the back of the net from out of nowhere.
Wilson’s goals were also so important at the beginning of his Newcastle career. Many will argue that the Magpies would have been relegated if Wilson did not play for them, so he will always be considered a legend on Tyneside.
Regarding honourable mentions, there are many to choose from. Wilson’s sensational bicycle kick against Crystal Palace in 2021 was sensational, while many will remember his goal from distance in a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur in 2022.
While it was not his best goal, Wilson’s most important Newcastle goal is undoubtedly his strike against Burnley in 2021. It was one of Howe’s first games as manager, and the fans were desperate for a win. The England international managed to steal the ball from Nick Pope’s clutches and fire in from close range.
That goal gave Newcastle their first win of the season and started off the climb out of the relegation zone and up the table.
