Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking to do some early transfer business this summer
Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking to get their next transfer over the line as Vitor Pereira’s side continue a mixed summer of early dealings, which has seen new faces arrive but some key players leave.
Jorgen Strand Larsen arrived on a permanent deal from Celta Vigo worth £23m after the Norwegian striker impressed on loan at Molineux last season. He scored 14 goals in his debut Premier League campaign as Wolves rose away from danger after initially flirting with relegation. The club returned to La Liga side Vigo to plunder 21-year-old attacking midfielder Fer Lopez, who arrived in a £19m deal after a breakthrough campaign last season.
Lopez could be tasked with partially replacing Matheus Cunha, who departed to Manchester United for £62.5m. Wolves fans were largely already resigned to the Brazilian’s departure, but would have been disappointed when Rayan Ait-Nouri followed him out of the door to Manchester, joining Pep Guardiola’s City for £31.8m.
In addition, Pablo Sarabia, Nelson Semedo and Craig Dawson have departed following the expiry of their contracts and Tommy Doyle has gone out on loan to local rivals Birmingham City in a busy window so far.
Wolverhampton Wanderers chance to land Christopher Wooh
Defensive reinforcements could be on the cards, as Wolves are reportedly prepared to pay €5m to sign Stade Rennais’ Christopher Wooh this summer. The 23-year-old is the target of multiple clubs across Europe but wants to move to the Premier League, report Sport Witness.
Reports relayed from Africa Foot said Wolves were in contact with Rennes last month, though Trabzonspor have since moved ahead in the deal and agreed a €5m deal to match Wolves’ price. But fresh news suggests that the player is holding out for a move to a ‘top five’ league, with German side Stuttgart also an option for the centre-back.
Should Wanderers decide to ramp up their interest and make a concrete bid for Wooh, the belief is that a move could get over the line quite quickly, with all parties thought to be open to the move for the Cameroon international, whose contract expires in 2026.
Wolves should go all in to secure bargain Wooh transfer
Wooh has 22 senior caps for his native Cameroon at the age of 23 and has made 66 Ligue 1 appearances across spells with Lens and Rennes after breaking through at Ligue 2 side Nancy. He also went to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
For such a bargain price a move would make perfect sense, as Wooh could compete with the likes of Toti and Emmanuel Agbadou for a starting spot at the back while offering Pereira’s side a mix of youth and international experience.
Wanderers may yet face a difficult campaign in 2025/26 and should aim to get as many new faces through the door as possible to ease concerns, though priority positions should be left-back and the attacking players necessary to replace the 15 league goals of Cunha, which will be a difficult ask. After such a positive end to last season was inspired by a stunning run of form in the spring, the Old Gold will be hoping that this winning mentality will translate to the new campaign after a tough start to the previous couple of seasons.
