It could take a record-breaking fee for Wolves to sign a Fulham striker transfer target.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly been told they must break Goztepe’s transfer record if they are to sign forward Romulo this summer.
Vitor Pereira is eager to bolster his forward line after the permanent acquisition of Jorgen Strand Larsen, providing some support for Wolves’ number nine. With that in mind, the Old Gold are one of several Premier League clubs to have been linked with a move for Romulo, who scored 13 goals and provided nine assists in 29 Turkish Super Lig matches throughout 2024/25.
It may not be easy to sign Romulo, however, as UOL Esporte reports Goztepe are playing hardball, making it extremely tough for Wolves and other clubs interested. The Turkish club are in no rush to negotiate and have demanded a fee sufficient to be their record sale by a country mile.
As it stands, Goztepe’s record sale - as per Transfermarkt - was in 2022 when defensive midfielder Obinna Nwobodo moved to Cincinnati for £2.5 million. As Romulo’s current market value is closer to £10 million, it’s likely Goztepe would be looking for deal four times as lucrative as Nwobodo’s exit.
Fulham lock horns with Wolves for striker transfer
Wanderers aren’t the only Premier League club keen on Romulo as the report from UOL Esporte credits Fulham with a strong interest. The Cottagers are being kept updated on the striker’s situation by Goztepe, along with RB Leipzig and Zenit Saint Petersburg.
There’s been talk of a potential departure for current Fulham centre-forward Rodrigo Muniz, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Leeds United all linked. It’s unclear whether the interest in Romulo is directly related to the Rodrigo speculation.
Wolves have funds to go big this summer
Wanderers certainly have the funds available if they do want to go big and make a formal bid for Romulo, following on from the huge-money sales of Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri to Manchester United and Manchester City. Pereira and new sporting director Domenico Teti will be considering a host of options for the striker position and could yet pull the trigger on signing Romulo.
The Old Gold have already completed the £21 million acquisition of promising winger Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo, while the Strand Larsen loan deal turned permanent for £25 million, but plenty of other swoops are expected.
It’s understood that Pereira is eager to sign a new centre-back or two as he seeks to bolster the depth and quality in defence. As Pereira tends to play with a back three, it’s pivotal he’s got a wealth of options at his disposal in case of injuries and fatigue.
The priority for Wanderers is to sign a striker, though, as there’s a recognition that Strand Larsen can’t do it all on his own. Wolves’ lack of depth up top was laid bare towards the end of last season when Strand Larsen wasn’t at full fitness, so it’s a neecssity to get another centre-forward through the doors at Molineux.
