This trade involves a third team, with the Miami Heat acquiring Norman Powell from the Los Angeles Clippers.
Collins, who joined the Jazz in 2023 in a salary-dump trade from the Atlanta Hawks, had a strong campaign last year, averaging 18.9 points and 8.2 rebounds on nearly 40% shooting from three. Despite his solid play, the 27 year-old’s role on the Jazz failed to fit the organization’s future, displayed by his appearance in only 40 games last season. Utah’s coffers are filled with young talent and the team is slated to play for draft position next season rather than playoff contention. This trade gives Collins an opportunity to play meaningful basketball, while giving Utah a nearly $26.5 million trade exception.
A former multi-time All-Star in his heyday, Kevin Love comes to Utah at 36 years-old. In Miami, Love played a small role off the bench, but his playing time has decreased year-over-year.
Kyle Anderson, who split time between the Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat last season, comes in as an intelligent veteran with two years left on a contract worth $9.3 million. Both players could provide solid mentorship for Utah’s group of young players next season.
