Newcastle United's £15m 'project player' returns to training early in bid to work his way into…

**The majority of Newcastle United's squad returned to Darsley Park this morning as they begin their pre-season preparations.**

Newcastle released several photos and videos as the stars returned to work after their most successful campaign in decades.

Not everybody was due to return today, however, with those who were involved in internationals over the break given an extended period of recovery.

However, much like Anthony Gordon did following his European Championship win with England in 2023, Will Osula has passed up the offer of an extra break and returned to training on day one.

Will Osula was on fire for Denmark U21s this summer

Despite representing Denmark U21s at this year's European Championships, Will Osula has returned to training as he tries to make his mark at Newcastle.

Last year's £15 million summer signing was given very few opportunities to shine during his maiden campaign under Eddie Howe, with him being labelled as a 'project player', meaning he was never brought in to make an immediate impact on the first team.

However, when he did play, it was clear that we'd signed a talented player who just needed a bit more coaching to get up to speed with how Eddie Howe sets up his side.

Will Osula is the only striker Newcastle have beyond Alexander Isak

-------------------------------------------------------------------

After shining at the European Championships, where he managed three goals and two assists in four games, it seems he now has the bit between his teeth and is ready to step up for Howe.

Callum Wilson announced today that he has left the club, which means Will Osula, who is also being trained as a right-winger, is our only backup for Alexander Isak, increasing the urgency around signing another centre-forward this summer.

We expect we'll be seeing quite a bit of Will Osula in action through pre-season as Eddie Howe assesses his development, and hopefully that will translate to more minutes next season.
