Expert predicts uninspiring start to Giants’ Jaxson Dart’s career

The big question entering the 2025 Giants season is when rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart will take the starting reins from Russell Wilson.

Will it be in the thick of the early season gauntlet, when Big Blue has to face the Commanders, Cowboys, Chiefs and Chargers? Or will coach Brian Daboll wait until later in the season?

Jaime Eisner of The Draft Network thinks it’ll be the latter. The NFL analyst last week predicted that Dart, 22, will earn his first start in Week 13 against the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football. Upon taking the job, Eisner believes Dart will put up OK numbers, logging 1,129.38 yards, 7.09 touchdowns and 3.98 interceptions in his five starts.

Writes Eisner (via The Draft Network):

Jaxson Dart will need to wait behind Russell Wilson to start the 2025 season. The major question isn’t if but when Dart gets to take over the reins. When could Dart make his first NFL start? I’m targeting Week 13 against the New England Patriots. I expect Wilson and the Giants to be competitive enough to hold off until late November before making the switch, allowing Dart to play against New England before entering New York’s Week 14 bye.

Based on recent trends in head coach Brian Daboll’s playcalling and current team personnel, we can project the Giants to throw roughly 32.50 times per game after averaging 32.62 passing attempts per game over the last two seasons. Looking at comparable players drafted outside the top 10 picks in the NFL draft, let’s assume a yards-per-attempt average of 6.95, a touchdown percentage of 4.36%, and an interception percentage of 2.45%.
