Ferran Torres has recently emerged as a potential transfer target for Aston Villa this summer.

The departures of loanees Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio has placed great importance on the Villans strengthening Unai Emery’s hand with fresh attacking additions ahead of the new campaign.

Villa’s well-documented financial issues haven’t stopped them from chasing ambitious targets, with Torres another player with a big CV to be linked with a switch to B6.

Alejandro Garnacho is another big-money option who has been touted for a move. However, it seems as though the club’s attention has turned toward Torres instead.

Spanish links could convince Torres to join Villa

Despite Villa’s interest, Torres is currently keen to stay at Barcelona, as he approaches his fourth full season with the Spanish giants.

Villa are believed to hold a serious interest in the former Manchester City star and have been mooted to potentially seal his signing for a fee in the region of £50million.

MORE VILLA STORIES

The 25-year-old has become a key player for the Blaugrana in recent years. Therefore, unless his stance changes, it seems unlikely that Villa will be able to get a deal over the line.

However, ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes that Emery and the Spanish contingent within his coaching staff could play a crucial role in convincing Torres to make the move.

“I think Emery will be a big factor,” King said.

“The promise of regular first-team football, working under a Spanish manager and Spanish coaching staff. Life at Villa would be quite enjoyable, I think, for Torres.

“I think Villa have found out that if they’re going to challenge, they need to improve the standard of their squad, and in doing that, they need to bring in better players, who cost more money.”

Villa should prioritise Torres

Monchi and Co. must be extremely mindful of who they bring to Villa Park this summer, given current financial concerns. Therefore, with that in mind, Villa should be doing everything they can to prioritise their pursuit of Torres ahead of Garnacho.

The Manchester United youngster would cost an eye-watering sum of money for a player who has major consistency issues, and those issues simply haven’t been a part of Torres‘ game as he’s developed.

Torres’ Barcelona stats in all competitions

The wideman has become a star at Barcelona since departing England, but after 26 goal contributions last season, now could be the perfect time for him to return and take the Premier League by storm.

Emery has drastically altered Villa’s fortunes as a club in the last few seasons, and they will be hoping he can play another masterstroke as part of this deal.
