Nottingham Forest have announced that Edu Gaspar, the former Arsenal sporting director, is their new Global Head of Football following months of speculation over his future.

The Brazilian, 47, won plenty of plaudits for his work at Arsenal before announcing his decision to move on last year. And it's now been confirmed that he's joined the Gunners' Premier League rivals to take up a newly established role within the Forest hierarchy.

His remit at Forest will include recruitment, squad strategy and player development as part of a newly created role, the club have confirmed.

Reacting to the news, Edu told the club's official website: “I’m truly excited about this new chapter and honoured by the trust placed in me.

“This project connects deeply with my values around innovation and long-term planning. I look forward to building a global football model that is competitive, sustainable, and aligned with our President’s ambition.”

Evangelos Marinakis, Nottingham Forest's president and owner, added: “We are extremely happy to welcome Edu to our football family. His global experience, values, and winning mindset align perfectly with our objective to strengthen and expand our international football platform.”

Speaking back in November, Edu said the time was right for him to pursue a new challenge after working for the club he used to represent on the pitch during his playing days.

“This was an incredibly hard decision to make,” he told Arsenal's official website.

"Arsenal has given me the opportunity to work with so many amazing people and the chance to be a part of something so special in the club’s history. It has been a special journey and I thank Stan, Josh, Tim and Lord Harris for the support they’ve given me.

“I’ve loved working with so many great colleagues across our men’s, women’s and academy teams, especially Mikel, who has become a great friend.

“Now it is time to pursue a different challenge. Arsenal will always remain in my heart. I wish the club and its supporters only good things and all the very best.”
