Viktor Gyokeres has already succeeded where Martin Zubimendi failed, Arsenal fans were furious

Viktor Gyokeres is close to following Martin Zubimendi to Arsenal.

The Sweden international is already on his way to north London for a medical, after Sporting CP agreed to let him depart Lisbon.

TBR Football understand Gyokeres will cost Arsenal around £65m – and the Gunners hope to wrap up the deal within the next 48 hours.

It comes swiftly after Martin Zubimendi was announced on Sunday, sealing his £55.8m move from Real Sociedad, but the Spain international recently angered Arsenal fans by doing something Viktor Gyokeres has made sure not to repeat.

Viktor Gyokeres has made an ideal first impression on Arsenal supporters, something Martin Zubimendi failed to do

Zubimendi left Arsenal fans livid after holding an interview with Noticias De Gipuzkoa at the start of June – where he cast doubt over his future despite several reports claiming he had already agreed a move to north London.

The Spaniard – who also praised Xabi Alonso amidst links to Real Madrid – said: “Of course there are options, but it’s true that it seems like it’s going to be a different, long summer, and I don’t know how it will end. Many times I wake up in the morning and read things that I didn’t know I had done.”

In stark contrast, Gyokeres has delighted Arsenal fans by agreeing to take a €2m (£1.7m) pay cut in order to force through his move to the Emirates Stadium, showing a real willingness to join the Gunners, whereas Zubimendi seemed quite ponderous over a switch to N5.

Mikel Arteta could have his own Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa

Regardless of that Zubimendi interview, the new Arsenal No.36 is still a superb player, and should bring plenty of control to the midfield next season, something the Gunners arguably lacked last term.

Another thing Arsenal lacked was the presence of a dynamic, powerful No.9 who runs the channels and pins defenders, which is exactly the type of striker Gyokeres tends to be.

As such, we feel Mikel Arteta could have his own Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa-style pairing in Zubimendi and Gyokeres.

The duo combined to score 16 goals in their 111 appearances together for Chelsea.

Arsenal like to build attacks from the back and play football on the ground, but with a willing runner in Gyokeres up top, and a supreme passer in Zubimendi, we could see the Gunners go slightly longer at times next season with these two new signings in the team.
