It's already clear what will decide the Premier League title race next season and Liverpool know it - opinion

Liverpool have invested heavily this summer but so too have their closest rivals.

The Reds romped to the Premier League title last season which is an amazing achievement in itself, but retaining it is even harder.

They are doing all the right things to achieve this, however, and some of their signings have been nothing short of sensational, most notably Florian Wirtz.

He may have cost £116m and forced Liverpool to break the British transfer record, but all the signs suggest he will be worth the money.

The fact Manchester City also wanted him is another key indication to the type of quality player the Reds have got through the door at Anfield, with the German hopefully making the difference in big games.

It certainly appears to be a three horse race for the league title, at this moment in time anyway, but Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal have all recruited similarly, suggesting they know what the deciding factor might be next season.

The midfield battle is where the Premier League title will be won and lost

As most know in football, if you control the midfield, you likely win the game, and this was what Liverpool did on so many occasions last season.

Next campaign they could take charge even more, with the midfield three likely to be Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Florian Wirtz – a simply frightening balance.

However, this is all well and good but both Man City and Arsenal have reinforced this area of the pitch too, suggesting it might just be the deciding factor in their meetings next season.

Pep Guardiola’s side have brought in Tijjani Reijnders, a box-to-box player, and Rayan Cherki, who is a similar profile to Wirtz.

As for Arsenal, they have signed former Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi, with his arrival allowing Declan Rice to play slightly further forward.

Either way, it is safe to say that all three sides have one of the most balanced and dangerous midfield threes in the world, and the Premier League title might just be decided on this alone.

Liverpool will fancy their chances of winning the Premier League

To spend £116m on one player, Liverpool must feel pretty confident that he will excel and only propel them forwards, suggesting they are confident of winning the league again next season.

Not only this, but they have strengthened in both full-back areas too and have managed to keep hold of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, meaning there may not be any real excuse for not retaining it.

However, both Arsenal and Man City have a point to prove next campaign. The Gunners are spending big and finally bringing in a striker, meaning expectations for them to finally win the title are higher than ever.

As for Man City, despite finishing third, they had a rather poor season by their standards and failed to win any silverware for the first time in eight years, something they simply will not allow to happen again.

Therefore, the Reds will have a tough task on their hands and will need their midfield to gel quickly, if not, they could be in real danger.
