First team training resumes

The first team squad - or what's left of it - returned to Rush Green this morning for the first day of pre-season.

Shy of a number of players who left the club at the end of last season - players such as Kurt Zouma, Danny Ings, Aaron Cresswell and VLadimir Coufal - the players were back in brand new training gear ahead of next week's trip to Switzerland where the players will be working ahead of their opening summer friendly against Grasshoppers.

The session began with a minute's silence for bothers Diogo Jota and André Silva, both of whom were killed in a car accident last week.

"The first day of pre-season is always important as it allows us to get our baseline data for the season ahead, which we can then refer to throughout the campaign," reported Performance Director Richard Collinge.

"We carry out a number of tests to establish benchmarks which we can refer to throughout the season, enabling us to recognise any potential medical issues and address them before they lead to injury.

"Eeach player underwent ECG and echo tests and was also assessed with bed-based musculoskeletal (MSK) tests. We also carried out mandatory baseline concussion tests before completing our testing with pitch-based fitness tests. All in all, it was a busy morning for the players and staff!”

Last call for stoners

Hammers fans are once again being offered the opportunity to have their names etched in stone - but for a final time.

According to an article on West Ham's website, this is the last time supporters will be offered the opportunity to purchase a commemorative stone in the Champions Place installation outside the London Olympic Stadium.

Described in club blurb as "an iconic landmark for the Hammers faithful, a lasting tribute to the fans, players and legends who have shaped the Club over generations", the available panel is the last that will ever be provided. And for £60 you can have your name or that of a loved one - or anyone you like! - etched in stone for prosperity.

You may purchase your stone via the club's online store - each may include up to 28 characters divided equally over two lines of text.
