The Cleveland Browns have a quarterback situation on their hands, and it might continue for a while.
With two veterans and two rookies in camp, coach Kevin Stefanski certainly has his options.
Joe Flacco even helped carry the Browns to a 4-1 finish and an unlikely postseason berth in 2023. But he'll have stiff competition from fellow veteran Kenny Pickett and two rookies, third-round draft pick Dillon Gabriel and fifth-rounder Shedeur Sanders.
Former NFL cornerback Herm Edwards, who went on to coach in college and the NFL, believes it's Sanders who willwin the job.
"I think he's going to win the job. I knew him since he was a little kid. I think the Deion factor, that bravado, that's why teams kinda went, 'We don't want this.' If I was there, I'm playing the rookie. I used to tell the veterans this: If it's even with you and a rookie, I'm going to play the rookie," Edwards said on The Coach JB Show.
Edwards likes the fact that Sanders' famous Hall of Fame father, Deion is involved, and believes that will be an advantage.
There is a long way to go in the quarterback competition in Cleveland, and Gabriel may have something to say about which rookie gets the job, if any.
But with Flacco's recent history with the team and the success he showed in Stefanski's system, it seems that he's the favorite this summer. But Stefanski has also spoken openly about Pickett's tools and how his game fits the Browns' system.
So ... who knows?
