Arsenal close in on 23-year-old Newcastle United target which should end links to Anthony Gordon

Having survived the media onslaught of journalists trying to ensure Alexander Isak joined Arsenal, Newcastle United fans were bracing themselves for another similar media campaign around Anthony Gordon.

The England winger was reportedly identified by Arsenal as the perfect answer to their search for a new winger, but before the rumour has managed to gather as much pace as the Isak stories, it looks as though the Gunners have found their alternative.

While Gordon's name did appear linked to Arsenal a few times, the most recent being a cheeky attempt by comedian Jack Whitehall to convince the winger he'd look good in red, they have never felt like more than media talk.

News has broken today that should put the idea to bed completely, although we're sure the Gordon to Liverpool links will remain throughout the summer.

Noni Madueke could be Arsenal-bound

Noni Madueke is now being strongly linked with a move to Arsenal

A report in The Athletic has claimed that Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Chelsea's Noni Madueke ahead of a potential bid.

Madueke is one of the names that was often linked with Newcastle as they look to add depth down the right flank. However, as Arsenal already have Bukayo Saka and the fact that they were targeting Anthony Gordon, it looks like they'll be asking the 23-year-old to operate down the left.

The Telegraph are reporting that it will take £50 million to pry Madueke away from Chelsea, who will be looking to make a few sales this summer after buying another entire squad already.

Remember when clubs used to boot off about 'tapping up'?

Our question is, at what point is this considered 'tapping up'? How can they have agreed on personal terms if they haven't even opened negotiations with the club?

I realise there's an element of the pot calling the kettle black here with reports saying that Newcastle have agreed terms with James Trafford and Anthony Elanga, but we're also in open dialogue with their respective clubs. This report suggests that Arsenal are still considering making a bid for Madueke.

As long as it brings an end to the Anthony Gordon rumours, we aren't really that bothered which way around Arsenal conduct their business, in all honesty.
