Leeds should move for ‘unbelievable’ player after leaving PL club on a free, Jesse Marsch wanted him - opinion

Leeds United still have plenty of time to explore the free agent market this summer.

There is a possibility that the 49ers look back on this opportunity after Lukas Nmecha’s free transfer.

With many new faces needed and squad depth vital for the Premier League, it wouldn’t come as a major shock if this happened.

Many players offer the experience needed at this level, with Callum Wilson’s free agency potentially piquing Daniel Farke’s interest.

But instead of the Newcastle United striker, there is the perfect option waiting who can add extra components to this Leeds squad.

Leeds United should sign ‘unbelievable’ star Jesse Marsch wanted

With three new players integrating themselves into the squad, Farke can continue the unity he’s created from the Championship.

One area where the 49ers are struggling to improve is midfielders, as key target Habib Diarra was signed by Sunderland.

Adding to Leeds’ misery, Noah Sadiki was also signed by Sunderland, which gives Regis Le Bris’ side an upper hand.

However, money has been spent from the Mackems’ point of view, and the 49ers can dip into the free agent market again to land someone who’s a midfielder, but also adds Premier League experience.

This is after Burnley’s Josh Brownhill became a free agent, as Sky Sports reported on Sunday’s broadcast (06/07/25) that Brownhill is ‘considering’ listening to any offer this window.

Jesse Marsch was keen on Brownhill as the 29-year-old former Burnley captain would make for excellent business on a free deal.

His Clarets teammate Josh Cullen labelled Brownhill ‘unbelievable’ to the Burnley Express as Leeds have now been given the perfect opportunity.

Leeds likely to sign Brownhill after transfer window trend

Many Whites fans will know of Brownhill’s quality.

Not only did Marsch want him in 2022, but Farke is also a big fan, as Leeds wanted Brownhill under Vincent Kompany, and this long-term interest is warranted after not only his goal-scoring form in the Championship, but his creativity is top.

But more to the reason as to why Leeds could make a move is due to Brownhill’s leadership.

The 29-year-old has been the captain of Burnley and has shown he can be a real leader, which Farke is looking at in terms of transfers.

This comes after Jaka Bijol was praised as a leader, and other signing, Sebastiaan Bornauw, is known for his leadership traits.

Not only will this improve Leeds’ belief, but Brownhill can shine in the top flight after 24 goal contributions last campaign.
