Manchester United to submit bid to sign Brazilian goalkeeper

Andre Onana’s time at Manchester United has so far been far from convincing.

Since his arrival from Inter Milan in 2023, the Cameroonian has struggled to replicate his form from Italy.

Sloppy distribution and a string of soft goals conceded have frustrated fans, while also receiving criticism from United legends.

Questions have been raised in regards to his long-term role as No.1, since last season.

While it’s been circulated recently that Onana is set to stay at Old Trafford next season, that hasn’t stopped the club from exploring new options.

Now, according to Brazilian outlet Meia Hora, Manchester United are preparing a formal bid to sign Botafogo’s highly-rated goalkeeper John Victor.

The 29-year-old has caught the attention of several European clubs with his commanding displays in Brazil and at the Club World Cup this year.

United already have an advantage on signing Victor, due to their sustained, serious interest since 2024.

News came to light during the start of July that the Red Devils are working on a deal to sign the Brazilian imminently.

With Altay Bayindir expected to leave after failing to impress in limited minutes, United are actively searching for someone to provide proper competition for Onana.

Victor helped Botafogo win both the Copa Libertadores and the Brasileirao.

His big-game reputation was proven with a standout performance in their 1-0 win over PSG in June.

The Brazilian would relish the opportunity to move to Old Trafford, where he’d not only battle for a starting spot but also take the next step in his career on the Premier League stage.

With Matheus Cunha already through the door and Bryan Mbeumo edging closer, John Victor could become the latest piece in United’s growing summer rebuild.
