Manchester United’s summer rebuild is threatening to stall – and fast.
So far, only Matheus Cunha has arrived from Wolves in a £62.5m deal as a first-team addition, instantly raising the squad’s technical and physical ceiling.
Bryan Mbeumo is expected to follow, despite the deal lacking any real progress over the last few weeks.

But beyond that, there’s growing frustration at missed opportunities.
The failure to land Liam Delap as a main striker target – who ended up joining Chelsea despite Red Devils already already holding talks with Ipswich – was a major blow.
Then came the setback with Viktor Gyokeres, who United have long remained linked to since Ruben Amorim’s arrival.
But, he’s yet another striker target opting against a move to Manchester, as he edges closer to a move to Arsenal.
And now, Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be slipping through United’s fingers too.
According to TalkSPORT, Newcastle United have held fresh talks with the former Everton striker, who is available on a free transfer this summer.

United had identified Calvert-Lewin as a short-term solution up front, but Newcastle may now beat them to the punch.
The 28-year-old, capped 11 times by England, left Everton when his contract expired in June and is fielding interest from several clubs.
Eddie Howe is said to be a long-time admirer of the Sheffield-born forward and views him as a potential backup for Alexander Isak.
Especially with Callum Wilson now departing the club.
Newly-promoted Leeds United have also shown interest.
However, they are unlikely to match the striker’s wage demands.
With United’s striker department still looking light and recent targets slipping away – Calvert-Lewin may soon become another missed opportunity unless the club act fast.
