Manchester United’s search for a new striker has been filled with frustration so far this summer.

The Red Devils saw Liam Delap slip away to Chelsea, despite holding talks with Ipswich in a bid to hijack the move.

Then came another blow, with long-time target Viktor Gyokeres edging closer to Arsenal, leaving United empty-handed again in their pursuit of firepower.

While Matheus Cunha has arrived from Wolves, there’s still a glaring need for an additional centre forward.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been posed as an option, having been in the Premier League for numerous years.

However according to GiveMeSport’s report, sources close to the club have revealed that Manchester United have opted against pursuing Calvert-Lewin.

That is despite the striker being heavily pushed their way by intermediaries following his exit from Everton.

The 28-year-old, who left Goodison Park last month after his £100,000-a-week contract expired, is now a free agent.

Influential figures at Old Trafford reportedly raised red flags over his injury record according to GiveMeSport, which limited him to just 27 appearances last season.

It is believed that United were unwilling to enter advanced talks or make a formal offer.

A move which may now put Newcastle United in pole position to sign the Englishman.

Instead, United’s recruitment team remains focused on sealing a deal for Bryan Mbeumo.

Two bids have already been rejected by Brentford.

Ruben Amorim remains open-minded about adding a proven Premier League striker.

Although for now, the club are choosing to hold fire.

United could yet reallocate funds from the Mbeumo pursuit to go after a marquee centre-forward later in the window.

Especially if Marcus Rashford departs on loan or permanently.

But as it stands, a move for Calvert-Lewin is not expected to materialise.

United are choosing to pursue other striker options for the 2025/26 rebuild.
