Celtics lose draft picks after Blazers modify Anfernee Simons trade

The Celtics will no longer receive two second-round draft picks from the Blazers as part of the Jrue Holiday for Anfernee Simons trade according to a release from the Blazers.

The deal originally had the Celtics receiving a Knicks 2030 second-round pick and the Blazers’ 2031 second-round pick along with Anfernee Simons in exchange for Jrue Holiday, a league source tells MassLive. However, those picks were not included in the official announcement of the deal on Monday.

A report from Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian indicates via a source that a review of Holiday’s medicals by Portland led to the Blazers changing the terms of the original deal but not nixing it outright.

Holiday, 35, still has three years remaining on his contract with $94 million owed through the 2027-28 season. Boston moved his contract in large part to help reduce the team’s historic luxury tax bill for the upcoming season. Simons still remains on Boston’s roster, but the team has explored trade talks involving the guard, a source tells MassLive.

Simons, 26, is entering the final year of his contract and is making $27.6 million for the 2025-26 season. Simons averaged 19.3 points and 4.8 assists per game last season.
