Man Utd are looking to strengthen the forward line first, however, it looks like they have missed out on a diamond in midfield.

Manchester United’s need for reinforcements hasn’t changed with Ruben Amorim set to welcome the players back for pre-season training with only one new addition.

Man Utd set to miss out on midfield target Ardon Jashari

The problem, is that it means other clubs are getting on with their recruitment whilst United stand still and fall further behind with Ardon Jashari the latest target who looks to be heading elsewhere.

Jashari could have been United’s Luka Modric, a deep lying playmaker to keep things ticking over and to link players like Manuel Ugarte, Bruno Fernandez and Casemiro. Instead, the Club Brugge midfielder is heading to AC Milan, if the Italian giants can find the difference between the Belgian’s €40m (£34.5m) valuation and Milan’s €33m offer.

One way that United could have persuaded Brugge to part with Jashari quicker and give them an edge on Milan could have been to offer them a player who Amorim doesn’t seem to be able to find a place in his system for.

Just because it hasn’t clicked under Amorim, it doesn’t mean that Kobbie Mainoo can’t return to the form that he showed for club and country when he first burst onto the scene.

What has Amorim said Mainoo needs to improve?

The problem is, Amorim has already said what Mainoo needs to work on but the qualities don’t seem to come naturally to the academy product.

“When I see Kobbie, I see a lot of talent. But in the way I see it, I could be wrong. I see some things that Kobbie has to improve,” he said.

"His pace in the game. He needs to improve in the build-up. Near the box, he has a lot of talent and that is why I think he did a really good game in the Europa League in that position. But I don't see a full player at the moment; he is 19. If I say I have seen the final player, I don't think I am helping Kobbie.

"I think in England sometimes they played with three defenders, so he can play," Amorim said about Mainoo’s exciting breakthrough for England. "We need to help him. Casemiro is playing better because we are understanding better the way Casemiro can play. I think we can do that with Kobbie. He is good on the ball and near the opponent's box."

United might need to be creative with loan deals or swap/player plus cash deals this summer if they are to give Amorim the squad he needs and are to move on those who don’t want to be at the club or who simply haven’t been able to adapt to his methods.
