Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams has been one of the most productive running backs in the NFL over the past two seasons, but apparently, that still isn’t enough to earn him a spot among the league’s elite.
As ESPN released its annual Top 10 Running Backs rankings, voted on by NFL executives, coaches, and scouts, Williams was left off the list entirely. Not only did he miss the top 10, but he didn’t even receive an honorable mention. He was listed as one of the players who “also received votes.”
It’s a surprising snub for a player who finished seventh in the league in rushing yards (1,299) and tied for fifth in rushing touchdowns (14) last season. Williams was the engine of a Rams offense that battled through injuries and inconsistency, helping lead the team to a playoff berth and a near-upset of the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

The timing of the ranking stings even more, considering Williams is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is currently in talks with the Rams on a potential extension. While his production speaks for itself, the lack of recognition from league insiders could complicate negotiations, or at least add fuel to Williams’ fire heading into 2025.
To make matters worse, several backs with lesser statistical seasons made the list or earned honorable mentions. The top 10 included names like Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, Bijan Robinson, and Christian McCaffrey, while honorable mentions went to Breece Hall, De’Von Achane, and James Conner, among others.
Williams’ omission wasn’t due to a lack of effort; he played through a battered offensive line and still managed to produce. But with a 4.1 yards per carry average and five fumbles, some voters may have docked him for efficiency and ball security.
Still, for a player who’s quietly become one of the most reliable backs in the league, the snub feels more like motivation than a setback.
