Manchester United have 'opened talks' with Serie A side Atalanta over a potential move for midfielder Ederson, according to reports from Brazil.
Ruben Amorim may look to strengthen his midfield options this summer following the departure of Christian Eriksen, who has left the club as a free agent. More broadly, United’s squad is expected to undergo something of an overhaul after a dismal end to the 2024/25 campaign.
United suffered a bitterly disappointing defeat to Tottenham in May’s Europa League final, failing to capitalise on a last-ditch chance to secure European football for next season. A 15th-place finish in the league also marked the club’s worst showing of the Premier League era.
Still, there are reasons for optimism. Wolves forward Matheus Cunha has become the first new arrival of the summer, and with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo also a key target, the Red Devils could be set to unveil a completely revamped attacking line next term.
Attention is also turning to the midfield, with GOAL Brazil reporting that Atalanta’s Ederson is once again drawing interest from United’s hierarchy, who have made enquiries about the 26-year-old’s availability this summer. However, the Manchester club are not alone in their pursuit, with both Inter Milan and Juventus also said to be monitoring the situation.
The report adds that Atalanta will demand a fee in the region of €60 million (£51.6m) for Ederson during this transfer window and appear more open to selling him than in previous years. Last summer, United were rumoured to be among several clubs, alongside Chelsea and Newcastle, linked with the Brazilian, but the Serie A outfit were unwilling to sanction a move at the time.
Now, after three seasons in Bergamo, Ederson could finally be on the move. Since arriving in Italy in 2022, he has made just shy of 140 appearances for Atalanta in all competitions, scoring 13 goals along the way.
