Blazers Finalize Jrue Holiday Trade With No Draft Picks Involved

The Portland Trail Blazers have finalized their trade to send Anfernee Simons to the Boston Celtics for Jrue Holiday, the organization announced Monday. However, contrary to initial reports of the trade in June, the Blazers will not be sending two second-round picks to the Celtics.

A recent review of Holiday’s medicals showed nothing substantial enough to warrant the trade being negated, but there was enough in the findings to lead the Blazers to change the terms of the deal slightly, a league source confirmed to Blazer’s Edge. Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian/OregonLive first reported the news about why the deal was altered.

Holiday, 35, averaged 11.1 points and 3.9 assists in 30.6 minutes per game over 62 appearances for the Celtics last year. He is a two-time NBA champion, once with the Celtics in 2024 and once with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021.

Holiday signed a four-year, $135 million extension in 2024. He is set to make $32.4 million next year, $34.8 million in 2026-27, and $37.2 million on a player option in 2027-28.

The Trail Blazers announced Holiday will wear No. 5 in Portland.

Simons spent the first seven seasons of his career in Portland, appearing in 389 regular season games. This past season, the 26-year-old guard averaged 19.3 points and 4.8 assists in 32.7 minutes per game.
