Following Jurgen Klopp's arrival at Liverpool in 2015, he transformed the Reds and turned them into Premier League and Champions League winners after years of mediocrity. The German did so by bringing in and developing some very talented footballers. He signed the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane, while also promoting promising young players like Trent Alexander-Arnold from the youth team.
There are plenty of fan favourites from Klopp's era in charge at Anfield. Salah's heroics have ensured he has become beloved by the Liverpool supporters. Some players became cult heroes for very different reasons, though. Divock Origi's role at Liverpool was very limited in comparison to the side's biggest names, but he was adored by fans anyway.
When it came time for him to leave the side in 2022, many expected it would be the start of him taking his career to the next level and showing what he could do with a bigger role than the one he held at Anfield. Three years later, however, his career has taken a very interesting turn.

Origi actually joined Liverpool before Klopp took charge of the club. The forward moved to Anfield in 2014, joining from Lille after he came through the academy at the Ligue 1 club. He was signed by Brendan Rodgers and immediately loaned back to the French side. Once he came to Merseyside, though, his time in England got off to a solid start.
He hit double figures in terms of goals scored in both of his first two campaigns with Liverpool. His exploits in particular made him a fan favourite quickly with the Anfield faithful. He scored at a very impressive rate, predominantly coming off the bench for the Reds, but was allowed to join VfL Wolfsburg on loan at the start of the 2017/18 campaign. He was in search of more consistent football and received it in Germany.
He played 36 times for the Bundesliga side and scored seven goals before returning to England. Following his homecoming at Liverpool, though, he struggled to play regular minutes under Klopp. He was mainly used as an impact sub and struggled to make much of an impression in the Premier League. He did rise to the occasion more than once, though, and he was described as Liverpool's best finisher by Sadio Mane during his time there. The consensus was that he would thrive if given more opportunities to play. That's why many expected big things for him when he left the Reds in 2022 and joined AC Milan.

Origi's Time at AC Milan
Things haven't gone to plan for the forward
Divock Origi
Once his Liverpool contract expired, Origi was released by the club and he promptly joined AC Milan in Italy on a four-year contract. The move was supposed to give him the chance to prove himself, but that isn't how things have played out for the star in Serie A. Throughout his debut season in Milan, the striker struggled to settle in.
He didn't get off the mark with his new club until his sixth Serie A game. He only managed to score one more goal during the entirety of the 2022/23 season, despite playing 36 times over the course of the campaign. It quickly became apparent that his time at the San Siro wasn't going to play out how he or any of his fans hoped.
After just one season, he was loaned back to England when he joined Nottingham Forest at the start of the 2023/24 campaign. Again, though, it wasn't the move that he'll have wanted.

Divock Origi at Nottingham Forest
After a disappointing season in Italy, Origi moved to Forest to try and rejuvenate his career, but his time in the middle of England didn't go well. At the time, Forest were struggling at the bottom of the Premier League table, fighting against relegation back to the Championship. Midway through the campaign, Steve Cooper was dismissed as the club's manager and Nuno Espirito Santo was brought in to replace him.
That didn't help Origi's fortunes at the City Ground, though. He played just 22 times for Forest during his loan spell with the club and scored just one goal for the side, in an FA Cup match against Bristol City. His poor performances for the club caused Espirito Santo to lose faith and he was left on the bench for Forest's final four games of the season. He was then sent back to Milan and things only got worse.

Nottingham Forest's Divock Origi
After returning to Italy after his loan spell at Forest, Origi was essentially exiled from the first team due to his poor form and he hasn't actually played for the side since. He went through the entire 2024/25 campaign without playing a single game for the club and now, it looks as though he'll be leaving the Italians soon.
While he's not stepped onto the football pitch for Milan all year, Origi has continued to earn his €4m salary and now that the club are eager to get rid of the striker, Football Italia has revealed that he is refusing to let them terminate his contract unless they pay him an extra €2m.
It remains to be seen whether the two parties will come to an agreement. His career certainly hasn't unfolded like so many expected, though, once he left Liverpool.
