Liverpool fans were brought to tears by a touching tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre this evening. The club took to social media to announce a livestream from Anfield, providing fans with an opportunity to remember "our lad from Portugal".

Jota, 28, was travelling with Andre in the Zamora region of Sanabria, Spain, when their car was involved in a fatal crash on Thursday, July 3. The brothers were laid to rest on Saturday July 5 at Matriz de Gondomar church in their hometown, just 7km east of Porto.

Members of the public lined the streets outside the church to pay their respects. Alongside family members and loved ones, Liverpool FC and international players, as well as members of the football community from around the globe, attended the service.

Liverpool FC announced a livestream titled "Remembering Diogo: Our Number 20" on LFC TV on Monday evening. On X, they shared: "Join us at Anfield as we remember Diogo Jota, our lad from Portugal, who will be so greatly missed."

Fans took to social media ahead of the livestream, one said: "Will tune in, will be a heavy and somber time. Appreciate you giving the fans and LFC fam access for this." Another said: "Gonna be a hard watch this."

At 6pm, fans watched the stream on YouTube as the club opened the video with the message: "Diogo Jota 1996-2025. Liverpool Football Club are devestated by the passing of Diogo Jota.

"The 28-year-old died in a road traffic accident in Spain on Thursday, alongside his brother Andre Silva. We request the privacy of Diogo and Andre's family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with the unimaginable loss.

"We will continue to provide them with our full support. At 6pm BST this evening, we will air a special tribute: 'Remembering Diogo: Our Number 20'."

While You'll Never Walk Alone played out, viewers watched as the club shared a montage from the tributes at Anfield and the hundreds of flowers that have been laid in memory of Jota.

Taking to X, one fan said: "I’m in tears already" and another said: "I honestly thought I had no tears left. I was wrong." More joined in the conversation on social media: "Only a few minutes into the tribute and it really hurts. Missing Jota a lot."

Other fans were quick to praise the club for providing the opportunity for fans to grieve together. One said: "This is absolutely amazing" and another wrote: "I hope all the families connected with LFC feel the strength and support of the fans."

Peter McDowall welcomed Phil Thompson and the ECHO's Paul Gorst during the livestream, alongside Neil Atkinson from The Anfield Wrap. They spoke about the unbelievable family tragedy and how the LFC family have provided a "blanket of love" for the city and beyond.

LFC presenter Becky Davis also spoke to John Aldridge who said he still feels "numb" to the news, as well as a number of fans who had arrived to pay tribute at Anfield.
