Former FSU DL is the first Seminole alum in this year's NFL Top 100

Josh Sweat finally cracked the NFL Top 100 list.

The pass rusher, who signed a massive free-agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals in March, landed 95th on the list. Sweat, who made the Pro Bowl in 2021, had a solid seven-year run with the Philadelphia Eagles that included a standout performance in Super Bowl LIX.

The NFL-produced video includes tons of shout-outs from his former teammates. Eagles defensive back Cooper DeJean simply described Sweat as 'dominant'. Despite being a former Pro Bowler and having an 11-sack season in 2022, Sweat has often flown under the radar when it comes to discussing the NFL's top pass rushers.

But no one could ignore Sweat after he spent the better part of the Super Bowl LIX hanging out as an uninvited guest in the Kansas City Chiefs backfield with Patrick Mahomes. Sweat had six tackles and 2.5 sacks in the game, which the Eagles won, 40-22. His pass rush was the primary cause for two of Mahomes' interceptions that day. He surely would have been named the Defensive MVP of the game if the NFL had such an award (and really they should...it's about time).

Sweat spurned in-state school and SEC power for FSU

A five-star prospect out of Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, Sweat was rated as the No. 1 edge rush prospect in the nation and No. 6 overall. He was one of three five-star prospects to commit to the Seminoles in the Class of 2015, joining safety Derwin James and cornerback Tavarus McFadden as the cornerstones of the No. 3 recruiting class in the nation.

Sweat had a solid career at Florida State with 138 tackles and 17.5 sacks over 35 games in three years. It was near the end of Jimbo Fisher's run, so things weren't as fruitful for the Seminoles as they were in the early 2010s, but Sweat was part of teams that made the Peach Bowl and Orange Bowl before things went downhill in 2017.

Seeing the writing on the wall, Sweat declared for the 2018 NFL Draft. He tested extremely well in the combine, with his 4.53 40-yard dash and 39.5" vertical jump rating first among defensive linemen. Those numbers offset concerns about knee injuries Sweat dealt with at FSU, and hewas picked by the Eagles in the fourth round (130th overall). Sweat signed his first big contract, a three-year, $40 million extension, with the Eagles before the start of the 2021 season.

Sweat rewarded the Eagles' investment with a Pro Bowl season in 2021, 11 sacks in 2022 and an MVP-worthy performance to help the Eagles secure their second Super Bowl championship.

From a five-star prospect in the Hampton Roads to a Super Bowl hero, Sweat continues to add to the legacy of FSU greats in the NFL.
