AUSTIN, Texas — A total of five former University of Texas men's basketball standouts are on NBA Summer League 2025 rosters. Max Abmas (Utah Jazz), Tre Johnson (Washington Wizards), Arthur Kaluma (Los Angeles Lakers), Sir'Jabari Rice (Los Angeles Lakers) and Kadin Shedrick (Cleveland Cavaliers) are all set to play in the NBA's summer circuit during the month of July.
Abmas, who finished his Texas career in the 2023-24 season, played in 50 games in the Tip-Off Tournament and the regular season for the Salt Lake City Stars in the NBA G League last year. He averaged 13.8 points and 4.8 assists in 26.4 minutes per contest while converting 37.2-percent from three-point range and 83.6-percent from the free throw line. During his one season at Texas (2023-24), Abmas played and started all 34 games and led the team in scoring (16.8 ppg), assists (140, 4.12 apg) and minutes (35.1 mpg) while earning All-Big 12 First Team (media), NABC All-District 8 First Team and Big 12 All-Newcomer Team recognition in addition to All-Big 12 Second Team (coaches) accolades.
Johnson was selected as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards on June 25. He became the 10th lottery pick in the NBA Draft in UT program history and first since Jaxson Hayes in 2019. Johnson played and started 33 of Texas' 35 games during the 2024-25 season and led the SEC in scoring (19.9 ppg) while converting 39.7-percent (89-224) from three-point range and 87.1-percent (121-139) from the free throw line. He was named SEC Freshman of the Year and claimed spots on the All-SEC Second Team and five-person All-SEC Freshman Team by the league's coaches. In voting by media covering the league, Johnson was tabbed the SEC Newcomer of the Year and earned a spot on the five-person All-SEC First Team. One of five finalists for the Jerry West Award as the top shooting guard in the nation, he also earned a spot on the NABC All-Gulf District First Team.
Kaluma was a one-year starter at Texas in 2024-25 who previously spent two seasons at Creighton (2021-23) and one year at K-State (2023-24). He registered four-year collegiate career totals of 1,639 points (12.2 ppg) and 866 rebounds (6.5 rpg) in 4,020 minutes (30.0 mpg) and reached double figures in scoring 93 times, topped the 20-point mark 12 times and surpassed the 30-point mark once in his career. Kaluma also reached double digits in rebounds 19 times and recorded 16 career double-doubles. He played in 33 games (32 starts) last year and led the team in rebounding (7.5 rpg) and double-doubles (8) while ranking second in scoring (12.3 ppg), blocks (30) and minutes (29.3 mpg), tied for second in steals (31) and tied for third in assists (60, 1.8 apg).
Rice, who finished his Texas career in the 2022-23 season, has seen action in the NBA G League with the Austin Spurs (2023-24), Sioux Falls Skyforce (2024-25) and South Bay Lakers (2024-25) during the past two years. He played in 40 games in the Tip-Off Tournament and the regular season for the South Bay Lakers last year and averaged 13.5 points and 3.1 assists in 21.6 minutes per contest while converting 50.8-percent from the floor, including a 41.9-percent mark from three-point range. In his one season at Texas (2022-23), Rice was tabbed the National Sixth Man of the Year by College Hoops Today (Jon Rothstein) and earned the Big 12 Conference Sixth Man of the Year Award. He was also named to the All-Big 12 Third Team and the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team as he ranked second on the team in scoring (13.0 ppg), fourth in assists (77) and minutes (25.3 mpg) and fifth in rebounding (3.5 rpg).
Shedrick was a two-year letterwinner (2023-25) and one-year starter at Texas after spending three seasons at Virginia (2021-23). He played in 143 career collegiate games (80 starts) and recorded career totals of 1,011 points (7.1 ppg), 627 rebounds (4.4 rpg) and 207 blocks (1.4 bpg) in 2,820 minutes (19.7 mpg). Shedrick converted 60.0-percent (360-600) from the floor in his career. He played and started all 35 games last season and led the team in blocks (58, 1.7 bpg) and ranked second in rebounding (6.1 rpg), fourth in minutes (26.5 mpg) and fifth in scoring (8.8 ppg).
All 30 NBA teams are scheduled to compete in the NBA 2K26 Summer League on July 10-20 in Las Vegas.
