Tottenham are set to face competition from Manchester United for the signing of Genoa defender Koni De Winter
Tottenham Hotspur are yet to accelerate their summer transfer window despite pre-season on the horizon.
Spurs have turned Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel’s loans into permanent deals, while they are set to welcome Japanese centre-back Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale. However, with Cristian Romero potentially heading for the exit doors amid Atletico Madrid interest and Micky Van de Ven struggling to prove his fitness over two seasons at N17, Daniel Levy must look to sign a quality defender that could potentially replace either one of the them in the long run.
The North Londoners have expressed an interest in signing Genoa defender Koni De Winter in recent months. The 23-year-old, who was one of Genoa’s standout performers in the previous campaign, has made 57 appearances for the Italian side and offers the versatility to play at centre-back as well as right-back. It was reported last month that Spurs were leading the race for his signature.

Tottenham won’t have an easy route to land Koni De Winter as they face competition from Premier League rivals
However, as per an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Tottenham are set to face competition from Manchester United for the signing of Koni De Winter. Both the Premier League clubs are actively monitoring the Belgian defender’s progress.
The interest in the defender isn’t limited to England. German duo Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are both keen on De Winter, while Serie A clubs, including Inter Milan, Napoli, and AS Roma, also continue keeping tabs. The aforementioned report adds Genoa have slapped a valuation of €30–35 million for their star defender.

Premier League clubs have an edge over others due to their financial muscle
Premier League clubs should be viewed as favourites over others due to their strong spending power, potentially giving the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United the edge to land De Winter.
When it boils down to Spurs and Man United, the former may hold an advantage purely due to their qualification for Champions League football. And they did that by beating the Red Devils 1-0 in the Europa League final in Bilbao in May under former boss Ange Postecoglou, thereby, the club ending their 17-year-long trophy drought.

However, the Hotspur Way chiefs cannot undermine Man United, who despite ending the last season trophyless and finishing 15th in the Premier League, have pulled off Matheus Cunha’s signing from Wolves and remain in concrete negotiations with Brentford for star forward Bryan Mbeumo. So, if Spurs intend to sign the talented De Winter, we must act quickly.
