“We never gave up” — Konrad Laimer hails Bayern Munich effort in defeat to Paris Saint-Germain

Bayern Munich has bowed out of the Club World Cup at the quarterfinals stage after a 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. But, despite Ousmane Dembélé’s ruthless goal in stoppage time to cap it off, it was a fight to the finish line.

For one thing, PSG was down to nine men at that point after red cards to defenders Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernández. A Bayern equalizer, had it been conjured, would have sent the game to 30 minutes of extra time — with 11 players versus nine.

“It was a close game, little details made the difference,” Bayern defender Konrad Laimer said afterwards in comments captured via @iMiaSanMia. “In games like these, moments simply decide the outcome. I think we never gave up. In the end, they got two red cards. I thought until the very end we could still make it 1-1. But then you concede another goal like that. That’s just how it is in a tournament. that’s football.”
