Sources: What Manchester United privately expect to happen with Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United are expected to make major changes in attack this summer ahead of the new season.

Manchester United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves. The Red Devils are also closing in on Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

Despite this, they are linked with more attackers, with a new striker also a priority for the club.

But a move for a new striker could potentially impact the future of Rasmus Hojlund.

What those at Manchester United think will happen with Rasmus Hojlund

According to TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, Hojlund is aware that he is not in Ruben Amorim’s plans going into next season and that the club are in search of a new No.9.

Among those interested in signing him are Inter Milan, who are in talks with the club over a potential move but the player himself is not pushing for a transfer.

Those within Manchester United are expecting Hojlund to leave the club this summer but only if the club signs another striker.

Speaking to TBR Football, Bailey said: “Hojlund knows that he is not serious in the plans of Ruben Amorim, he knows that the club are actively looking for a new number 9.

“Inter Milan have held talks, and Hojlund would be keen but this is ongoing – Hojlund is not actively pushing to leave, but he knows United would not stand in his way and he knows they would ideally like to replace him and that impact on any player.

“There is still an expectation within the club that he does leave, if they bring another 9 in, as they hope, then it remains highly likely he leaves.”

Rasmus Hojlund’s disappointing time at Man United

Hojlund joined Manchester United in 2023 in a big-money move worth around £72m. He was seen as the long-term solution to the club’s long-standing issues upfront.

However, despite showing flashes of promise, the Danish striker has had a frustrating time at the club so far.

In his debut season with the club, he scored just ten goals in 30 league games. And last season, he scored just four goals in 32 league games and 10 goals in 52 games across all competitions.

He is yet to prove himself at United, with frustrations growing among fans and pundits, including Gary Neville who stated that Hojlund is ‘struggling like mad’.

Strikers linked with a move to Old Trafford

There is no doubt that Man United need to upgrade their striker, and the club has been actively searching for a new forward.

Among the players linked with a move have been Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko. United have already missed out on Liam Delap, with Delap choosing to join Chelsea instead.

Gyokeres is also on his way to Arsenal, ruling him out as an option, but Man United could now go for Sesko instead.

Hugo is another striker linked with Man United, with reports claiming that the club has already held talks about signing him.

It remains to be seen who United succeed in signing by the end of the transfer window and whether that impacts Hojlund’s future at the club.
